Uchiha Myuki by ToneDeafBard Uchiha Myuki by ToneDeafBard
This is a sketch of ~Myuu-ki cosplaying as Itachi. The drawing took me about 6 hours. The lines was inked with a 07 Pilot gel pen, and the coloring was done with a 12 pack Crayola color pencils. The lack of proper drawing materials in my house is sad lol.

I took some artistic liberty with the details of her cosplay. The Sharingan was based on the lens she used for her cosplay, there is no dashed circle around the pupils in the manga.

edit: I meant to give her a fair skin color, but the scanner didn't pick up the light coloring.

edit: I retouched the coloring. Skin color was made darker. Straw hat was made more yellow.

Be brutal, I want nothing less. :D

the features of the face are lopsided while the skull isn't turned, rotated or angled in any way.

haha thanks, I actually chose the reference picture because of the noncannon expression. The main characters rarely look that way.

The odd background is the result of my scanner. I drew this on a whim on printer paper and McGyver'ed supplies. The smudges are likely form me manhandling the paper too much.

Really nice coloring and shading details! :3 I like looking at your photo references and seeing how you change them into your own style. You have lots of potential!
I don't think I need to tell you that crayola is not a good brand to work with, ahah, but you've done well with it. I'd really like to see what you could do with a pack of prismacolor pencils, micron outlining pens, and even a few skin-tone copic markers.

Thanks again. The house I'm living in at the moment is not very artistic, so I had to McGyver the drawing materials. I drew it on printer paper :3

I'm no good at brutality, but I'll do my best to offer you some constructive criticism anyway! I like the overall detail of the piece, especially with the paper things hanging off of her hat--it gives a great texture to the piece!

For a lack of coloring materials, you did pretty well. I think, at least until you get some more colors, you could focus on coloring with less intensity, and allow one pencil to take on multiple shades depending on how hard you press with it. Granted, that does require patience to achieve the same sense of smoothness, but it's a good talent to have. Also along the coloring lines, her skin is a bit too pallid, it looks almost washed out and like she could use some color. (That might just be the character's design/lack of appropriate colors, but don't be afraid to throw some wild random things into her skin tone to really liven it up!)

Good job with the eyes, they have a lovely amount of detail and emotion in them. I hope this helps, keep up the good work! (And sorry it took me so long, school has been sooooo busy all of a sudden).

Thank you for you candidness, your comment was helpful :). Her lack of skin color was my mistake, I did it too lightly and the scanner didn't pick it up. I'll practice my shading.

It's ok to be busy, good luck with classes :D

Scanners can be such a disaster with colors, so hopefully next time around it all shows up a bit better!

this is really cool! i think you have a lot of patience to draw all of those paper-things coming from the hat... i don't have the patience to draw so many rips and tears.
ok... time for constructive criticism i don't generally give this, its usually always about how much i like the picture...so hopefully i get it right ^^;
umm i think you've got all the proportions right, my only suggestions are that you get a larger selection of pencils, so that you can start to shade. At the moment he/she? i don't watch/read naruto just looks a little flat because there's no variation in tone... that i can see. maybe it's just the way that it scanned in though.
i think the best way to fix it, if you don't want to get some more pencils, is to make sure you're leaning on something underneath so that the surface is smooth, and then use the same pencil to colour a little lighter for a base and then colour over it darker when you want to show shadows. and if you're not sure where to put the shadows, then draw them in lightly with a lead pencil first.
also, i suggest that you change the inking pen from a gel pen to a fine liner because gel pens tend to smudge more, in australia we use Artline fineliners, because there's actually nothing else, but i'm sure there's a bigger selection in America ^^;
sorry for such a long comment, hope it helps a little ^^;

Not at all, your comment was very helpful! :D

The scanned picture looks a bit different, it didn't pick up any of the lighter colors. I was afraid of making her skin color too strange so I only colored it lightly (I mixed brown, light brown and orange).

I'll try your method of shadowing :) I always sucked at shading and shadowing orz

Yes, there's similar products like Artline fineliners in America. I need to get better paper to use them though, they bleed every time I use them on printer paper.
